That is the best advantage you can give yourself when learning new music and techniques. Preparation I expect my students to come to lessons prepared. This means following directions that I have given during the previous lesson and practicing for at least 5 days during the week. Length of time per practice session will depend on a student’s level of experience: Beginners should expect to practice between 10-20 minutes per practice day. This amount of time will lengthen up to an hour with several years of lessons. Advanced students should expect several practice sessions a day. This amount of time is an estimate based on the amount of music assigned and time required to master a piece or technique. Lessons require equal effort from teacher and student. Both parties need dedication to their art form and the ability to communicate effectively. As a teacher, Julie makes her expectations clear, and she asks the same in return for her students.
